State lawmakers made changes to Michigan’s Auto Insurance No-Fault law. The new choices in Michigan auto insurance coverage go into effect on July 2, 2020. Additional information can be found at Michigan.Gov/AutoInsurance.
Under the new law, an applicant or named insured will be able to choose a level of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Medical Coverage and determine the level of Bodily Injury (BI) Coverage.
• Personal Injury Protection (PIP) pays allowable expenses for medical care, recovery, rehabilitation, wage loss, and replacement services. PIP coverage also includes some funeral expense benefits and survivor’s benefits which are paid to the dependents of a covered person if injuries from an auto accident resulting in their death.
• Residual Bodily Injury Limits (new minimum limit requirements) – This is coverage when (if) you are sued by a third party for your negligence when (if) you are at-fault in an accident.
If you think that either of these situations or another unique situation might apply to you, please contact our office. If you do not request a PIP and/or Bodily Injury Liability change with our office, your policy will remain as is:
• PIP: Unlimited• Bodily Injury: $1,000,000 Combined Single Limit
We strongly recommend that you continue to maintain unlimited personal injury protection coverage to protect yourself and your family. Please contact us directly at the office for more information.
